What an honest quote contains
- A price announced before travelling — by phone, based on your description (door type, slammed or locked). Announced price = invoiced price.
- Travel included — no "call-out fee" or "file fee" appearing on arrival
- Night/weekend rate communicated upfront — if there is a surcharge, you know it before, not after
- Payment after the intervention — never a cash deposit before the work is done
- A VAT invoice — always, with the company number (useful for insurance and your landlord)
The 4 questions to ask on the phone
- "Is the price you're announcing the final price?" — the answer must be a straight yes
- "Is travel included?" — same
- "What happens if the lock needs replacing?" — a pro gives you the cylinder price range before the opening, not after
- "Do you provide a VAT invoice?" — a refusal or hesitation is a red flag
