Reinforce Your Existing Door

After a break-in, the first thing most people want is a stronger door. But you don't have to wait until it happens. Door reinforcement lets you keep your current front door while making it far harder to force open. We do this across Brussels and Brabant every week — it's one of the most common requests we get.

The idea is straightforward: we add protective elements directly onto your existing door. You keep the look of your entrance, but the resistance level goes up dramatically. Our technicians start by checking the condition of your door and frame, then recommend what actually makes sense for your situation — not a one-size-fits-all package.

Reinforcement Options

Depending on the level of security you need and the configuration of your door, our team offers several types of reinforcement:

  • Steel plate: a steel plate is fixed to the interior face of your door, reinforcing its structure and making it far more difficult to force open.
  • Security pivot: reinforced hinges prevent the door from being lifted off its hinges, a technique frequently used by burglars in Brussels.
  • Metal frame reinforcement: a steel frame is fitted around the door casing to bind the door and frame together, resisting crowbar attacks.
  • Multipoint lock: we install 3, 5, or 7-point locking systems from trusted brands such as Fichet, Bricard, Vachette, and Mul-T-Lock to ensure solid anchoring across the full height of the door.

These options can be combined with each other. For maximum protection, we recommend a complete reinforcement package combining a steel plate, reinforced frame, and a high-security multipoint lock.

Complete Armored Door

When the existing door is too old or when you require the highest level of protection, our team carries out the installation of a complete armored door. We work with leading manufacturers such as Fichet and Picard, whose armored doors are certified according to European break-in resistance standards.

An armored door includes as standard:

  • A multi-layer steel panel
  • A reinforced metal frame
  • A high-security multipoint lock
  • A cylinder protected against picking, bumping, and drilling
  • Effective thermal and acoustic insulation

Our technicians handle the measurements, removal of the old door, and full installation of your new armored door, with precise adjustment for optimal operation.

Technical Specifications of Door Reinforcement

Effective door reinforcement is more than a metal sheet screwed onto a door. Here are the technical details that actually make the difference:

  • Steel plate thickness: minimum 1.5 mm of steel. Anything thinner bends under a crowbar. High-end reinforcements use 2.0 mm steel plate.
  • Anti-lift hinge pins: at least 3 pins on the hinge side, anchored into the frame by a minimum of 15 mm. These prevent the door from being lifted off even if the hinges are cut through.
  • Anti-pry corner strip: a steel profile fixed to the frame that eliminates the gap between door and frame. Without it, a crowbar can be inserted in under 2 seconds.
  • Multipoint lock: 3 points minimum for a flat, 5 to 7 points recommended for a house. Each locking point adds roughly 2 minutes to the time needed for a forced entry.

A complete reinforcement package (steel plate + corner strip + hinge pins + 5-point lock) delays a break-in by 10 to 20 minutes. Most burglars give up after 3 minutes of trying.

Who Is It For?

Door reinforcement is intended for anyone who wants to strengthen the security of their entrance. We regularly assist:

  • Ground-floor residents: apartments and houses on the ground floor are the most exposed to break-ins. Reinforcement provides a highly effective deterrent barrier.
  • Homeowners: whether in Brussels, Walloon Brabant, or Flemish Brabant, we secure the front doors of single-family homes and villas.
  • Burglary victims: after a break-in, it is essential to reinforce all entry points. Our team responds quickly to reinforce your door and replace damaged locks with Mul-T-Lock, Bricard, or Wilka models.
  • Businesses and offices: we also protect commercial premises with reinforcement solutions adapted to commercial doors, including the installation of Nuki smart locks for access management.

Not sure how secure your door actually is? Call us on 0495 205 400 — we'll come take a look, free of charge. Most assessments take about 20 minutes, and you'll know exactly what your options are before committing to anything.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between reinforcement and a reinforced door?
Reinforcement strengthens your existing door with a steel plate (economical solution). A reinforced door completely replaces your door (maximum security). Contact us for a free comparative quote. In practice, reinforcement suits 80% of our customers: it offers an excellent security-to-price ratio and preserves your door's appearance, which is often required by building management.
Is reinforcement effective against burglaries?
Yes, quality reinforcement with multipoint lock delays break-in by 5 to 15 minutes, which discourages most burglars who give up after 3 minutes. From our experience, burglars target the weakest doors in a building or neighbourhood. Visible reinforcement (reinforced bolt, anti-pry corner plates) is often enough to redirect them elsewhere.
How long does reinforcement installation take?
Reinforcement installation takes 2 to 4 hours depending on your door configuration. We work cleanly and leave the premises spotless. The job includes fitting the steel plate, installing the multipoint lock, adding anti-pry corner plates, and adjusting the door. No masonry work is required.
Can an apartment door be reinforced?
Yes, we reinforce apartment entrance doors. Check with your building manager if restrictions exist (exterior appearance sometimes regulated). In practice, most building managers accept reinforcement as long as the hallway-facing side keeps its original appearance. Our reinforcements respect this requirement: only the interior side changes visually.
