EVVA: a century of Viennese high security

EVVA is an Austrian manufacturer founded in Vienna on 22 July 1919 — the name is the acronym of "Erfindungs-Versuchs-Verwertungs-Anstalt", literally "institute of invention, testing and valorisation". More than a hundred years later, the company is still family-owned, and both research and production remain in Vienna. Among locksmiths, EVVA is an absolute reference for two things: high-security cylinders and large-scale master key systems.

Three systems, three philosophies

• 4KS — the mechanical flagship: 12 solid pins with no spring, positioned by the 6 curves of the key and controlled by 2 side bars. No spring = nothing to wear out, and one of the highest resistances to lockpicking on the market. Patent running until 2037.
• ICS — the reversible key with internal coding: comfortable for everyday use, effective protection against illegal opening methods. Patent until 2038.
• MCS — the magnetic system, developed as early as 1979: 8 free magnetic rotors in the cylinder respond to the 4 permanent magnets in the key, combined with double mechanical coding. The magnets cannot be photographed or 3D-printed: EVVA has presented the MCS as uncopyable for forty years. Patent until 2035.

The EVVA security card: your control over duplicates

Whatever the system, the principle is the same: key copies, additional cylinders and master key system extensions are only available from authorised EVVA partners, on presentation of the security card handed over at purchase. Keep it safe, separate from your keys: without it, the reordering procedure becomes complicated — that is the price of peace of mind.

Certifications and insurance

The mechanical EVVA systems are tested to the European standard EN 1303 — the MCS and the ICS reach grade 6 key security, with the VdS BZ+ (Germany) and SKG (Netherlands) certifications depending on the model, and a fire resistance tested up to 90 minutes for the 4KS. Useful references if your insurance policy requires a specific lock level.
