Lennik: Pajottenland, Gaasbeek Castle and “World’s Best Café”

With 9,481 inhabitants (2025) over 31.12 km² (density ~305 inh./km²), Lennik is a Flemish municipality of the Pajottenland, in the Halle-Vilvoorde arrondissement. Created by the 1977 merger, it groups three sections: Sint-Kwintens-Lennik, Sint-Martens-Lennik and Gaasbeek.

Lennik is home to the café “In de Verzekering tegen de Grote Dorst” (Insurance Against Great Thirst), voted “best destination in the world for a beer” by RateBeer users in 2015, 2018 and 2019 — a testimony to the Pajottenland’s brewing heritage (lambic, gueuze).
