Safe Haacht

Haacht: Between Leuven and Mechelen, Ancient Land

With 15,671 inhabitants (2025) over 30.74 km², Haacht is a Flemish municipality of Flemish Brabant, in the Leuven arrondissement. The commune comprises the town of Haacht and the villages of Kelfs, Tildonk, Wakkerzeel and Wespelaar.

Haacht centre : Municipal core around the Saint-Remi Church (Sint-Remigiuskerk), whose walls date back to 1281.

Historic heritage

The discovery of two weaving weights attests to occupation at Haacht before our era. The Saint-Remi Church with its 13th-century walls is an important monument. The KW Defensive Line passed through the area during WWII.

Local economy

The Haacht Brewery (historically “Brasserie et Laiterie de Haecht”), famous for its beers including Primus, bears the town’s name although it is physically located in neighbouring Boortmeerbeek.
