Perwez: Five Sections in the Agricultural Heart of Walloon Brabant

With 9,844 inhabitants (2025) over ~51 km² (density ~192 inh./km²), Perwez is a French-speaking commune of Walloon Brabant at coordinates 50°37’N / 4°48’E. The commune comprises five sections: Perwez (4,903 inh., main section), Thorembais-Saint-Trond (1,848 inh.), Orbais (1,231 inh.), Malèves-Sainte-Marie-Wastines (1,000 inh.) and Thorembais-les-Béguines (862 inh.).

Geography

The territory hosts the sources of two watercourses: the Grande Gette and the Jausselette rise in the commune. The landscape is typical of central Walloon Brabant: fertile agricultural plateaus, gentle valleys and traditional farms.

War memory

The commune suffered heavy damage during WWII: a 13 May 1940 bombing caused 33 casualties — a locally commemorated event.
