With 16,784 inhabitants (2025) over 11.5 km², Machelen is a Flemish municipality formed by the 1977 merger between Machelen and Diegem. It groups two sections: Machelen (1830) with 10,452 inhabitants over 6.04 km², and Diegem (1831) with 6,332 inhabitants over 5.45 km². High density of ~1,460 inh./km².
