Safe Lasne

Lasne: Belgium’s Sixth-Richest Municipality

With 14,175 inhabitants (2025) under postal code 1380, Lasne was in 2021 the sixth-richest municipality in Belgium and the richest in Wallonia. With a density of only 298 inh./km², the commune retains a semi-rural, residential character. It groups five sections: Lasne-Chapelle-Saint-Lambert (4,234 inh.), Ohain (6,055 inh.), Couture-Saint-Germain (1,363 inh.), Plancenoit (1,543 inh.) and Maransart (980 inh.).

Sections and profile

Lasne-Chapelle-Saint-Lambert : Administrative centre, mix of villas and rural estates.

Ohain : Most populous section, residential housing with villas and subdivisions.

Plancenoit : Section directly tied to the Battle of Waterloo (fierce fighting on 18 June 1815) — hosts the L’Aigle blessé (Wounded Eagle) monument and other French commemoratives.

Couture-Saint-Germain, Maransart : Rural sections with scattered housing among farms, wooded estates and large gardens.

Heritage

Lasne borders the Waterloo battlefield. Victor Hugo stayed here in 1861 to research Les Misérables. Edgar P. Jacobs (creator of Blake and Mortimer) and François Damiens (comedian) have lived in the municipality.

The affluent population and large estates drive strong demand for high-security multipoint locks, armoured doors (Fichet, Picard, Tordjman), A2P ownership-card cylinders, automated gates and access-control systems for residences and outbuildings. Older farms in the rural sections often retain heavy locks on original doors.

Daily interventions in Lasne

No direct railway station: residents use the nearby stations of Rixensart, La Hulpe or Braine-l’Alleud. The size (~ 50 km²) and the dispersion of estates require solid local knowledge for the discreet interventions this demanding clientele expects.
