Dilbeek: Residential Municipality of the Western Periphery

With 45,069 inhabitants (2025) under postal codes 1700-1703, Dilbeek is part of the Westrand (western ring around Brussels), in the Halle-Vilvoorde arrondissement. The municipality (formed by the 1977 merger) groups six sections: Dilbeek, Groot-Bijgaarden, Itterbeek, Schepdaal, Sint-Martens-Bodegem and Sint-Ulriks-Kapelle.

Sections and profile

Dilbeek centre : Administrative seat in the Château de Viron (1863). Mix of traditional housing and modern subdivisions.

Groot-Bijgaarden : Section with its historic Castle of Groot-Bijgaarden, famous for its gardens, and various residential zones.

Itterbeek, Schepdaal, Sint-Martens-Bodegem, Sint-Ulriks-Kapelle : Residential sections dominated by villas and subdivisions, retaining a semi-rural character.

Language and population

Although in Flanders, 48.6% of residents speak French at home (2020) — the municipality borders bilingual Brussels but is not officially a “facilities” municipality. Our team works in Dutch and French.

The light-industry zones along the R0 ring road require access control and professional locks. The centre retains older houses with original mortise locks.

The immediate proximity to Brussels, access to the R0 ring road and the presence of castles (Viron, Groot-Bijgaarden) create a mixed demand: high-end residential security, condominium maintenance and locksmithing for shops in the section centres.
