Court-Saint-Étienne: Steelworking Heritage at the Dyle Confluence

With 10,927 inhabitants (2025) under postal code 1490, Court-Saint-Étienne is a French-speaking municipality of Walloon Brabant over 26.88 km². Density of 406.58 inh./km². The municipality includes twelve hamlets and is watered by three rivers: the Dyle, the Thyle and the Orne.

Industrial heritage

The municipality’s economic past centred on the Émile Henricot forges and foundries, closed in 1984. Several protected industrial buildings remain, including the famous Hall No. 11 (1907). The commune also runs its local currency “Talent”.

Beyond the Saint-Étienne church, the municipality features the Goblet d’Alviella mausoleum, several chapels and a pre-Roman necropolis. Architecture mixes Art Déco and Art Nouveau, a legacy of industrial expansion.
