Asse: At the Gates of the Pajottenland

With around 32,958 inhabitants over 49.64 km², Asse is a Flemish municipality located between Brussels and the Pajottenland, in the Halle-Vilvoorde arrondissement. The municipality groups six sections under postal codes 1730 and 1731: Asse centre, Bekkerzeel, Kobbegem, Mollem, Relegem and Zellik.

Sections and profile

Asse centre : Commercial and administrative heart, with Sint-Martinuskerk (Saint Martin’s Church) as a visible landmark.

Zellik and Relegem : Sections closest to Brussels, predominantly residential, with direct access to the Chaussée de Bruxelles and the E40/A10.

Mollem, Kobbegem, Bekkerzeel : More rural Pajottenland sections, with farms and individual homes.

The centre retains older terraced houses with mortise locks, sometimes due for replacement. The recent residential subdivisions (especially towards Zellik and Relegem) and the light-industry zones along the E40 use multipoint locks and certified cylinders. Farms in the rural sections often feature heavy locks on older doors.

The fertile soil historically drove agricultural prosperity; today the municipality combines housing, retail and logistics, generating varied demand — private homes, condominiums, retail premises and warehouses.
