Aarschot: Historic Hageland Town

With 31,514 inhabitants (2025) over 63.04 km² (density ~500 inh./km²), Aarschot is a Flemish town in the Hageland, in the Leuven arrondissement, along the Demer river. The municipality has four sections: Aarschot (3200), Gelrode (3200), Langdorp (3201) and Rillaar (3202).

Sections and profile

Aarschot centre : Medieval historic core with the Church of Our Lady (Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk, 14th-century choir), the béguinage dating from the mid-13th century, and the famous historic bell tower (Aurelianus tower).

Gelrode : Residential section to the south, mixing family homes, subdivisions and wooded areas.

Langdorp and Rillaar : More rural sections, retaining a semi-village and agricultural character.
