Rixensart: Three Residential Sections around Lake Genval

With 23,052 inhabitants (2025), Rixensart is a residential municipality in Walloon Brabant located about 25 km south-east of Brussels. The commune comprises three sections: Rixensart centre (1330) with 12,415 residents, Genval (1332) with 8,466 residents, and Rosières (1331) with 2,171 residents.

Rixensart centre : Municipal core around the Château de Rixensart, dating from the 17th century. Mixed residential housing, villas and subdivisions.

Genval (1332) : Section structured around the Lake of Genval, created around 1900, now a tourist and residential hub. Many villas surround the lake.

Transport

The municipality is served by railway lines 161 and 139: Genval is about 16 minutes from Brussels by train and the link to Louvain-la-Neuve is direct. The E411 motorway runs along the commune.
